GFI seeks alt-protein innovators for residency program



WASHINGTON — The Good Food Institute (GFI), a non-profit organization promoting plant- and cell-based alternatives to animal products, is accepting applications for its inaugural Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) Program.

The six-month program is designed to “catalyze the creation of force-multiplying innovations” that tackle problems facing the alternative protein sector, said Laine Clark, entrepreneurship and innovation manager at the GFI. For its first program, the organization is seeking an existing or aspiring entrepreneur who has identified a solution addressing an alternative protein whitespace. The selected individual will work with the GFI’s corporate engagement team and will have access to its network and expertise.

The EIR will build the foundation of an early-stage brand over the course of the program, which is expected to begin in August and end early next year. The goal is to develop a solution with far-reaching impacts, Ms. Laine said.

“With this in mind, we are not prioritizing CPG concepts, but rather concepts that could proverbially lift all (or at least many) boats, including B2B solutions,” she said. “We welcome groundbreaking ideas across the entire alternative protein ecosystem.”

The primarily virtual program may require one or two in-person meetings and includes a $5,000 monthly stipend. The GFI will not take an equity position in any company participating in or resulting from the program. The deadline to apply is July 6.
